‘Substance abuse at its height’

Dimapur, October 28 (MExN): The National Domestic Workers Movement (NDWM) Nagaland Region organized a consultation and networking meeting with stakeholders in Balijan, Karbi-Anglong which is an interstate border of Assam and Nagaland on October 28.

It was jointly organized by Assisi Centre for Integrated Development, Khatkhatti PS, VDPs, GBs, stated a press release issued by Sr Pramila UFS, Coordinator, NDWM Nagaland Region, Karbi-Anglong area Bokajna block. The main topics discussed were substance abuse and its effects, issues related to children, women and the domestic workers.

SI Mwblik Brahma, OC Khatkhatti PS said, “substance abuse is at its height due to which trafficking takes place, missing takes place and our own children become someone who could harm the society. That is why it is everyone’s responsibility to cooperate and help one another to make the locality clean and healthy.” He said that being the border area of Karbi-Anglong and Dimapur, “there is a lot to do for the smooth functioning and also building of one person.” He urged to make ‘school committees strong.’ 

Suresh Singh, VDP President, Khatkhatti reiterated that it is the duty of every individual to address the issue and said, “When such programmes are organized, we should always think of following it up and taking it forward.”

Dr Lase Vizo, Dimapur District Nodal Officer for National Tobacco Control Programme, as the resource person stressed on the different types of substances, its effects on the individual, family, society and the environment. Loza, Centre Coordinator for CHILDLINE Dimapur district highlighted on the issues related to children and women. She said, “When we speak about the children, we cannot separate women.” She also spoke on the CHILDLINE helpline no. 1098 and women helpline no. 181. Sr Pramila in her welcome address spoke on the issues of domestic workers.
