
Nagaland announces Rs 3.50 crore for Jal Jeevan Mission

As many as 30 trainers from 11 districts of the state attended the “training of trainers on Sujal and Swacch gaon/villages” organized by Water and Sanitation Support Organization under Public Health Engineering Department, Government of Nagaland from February 10 to 14 at the PHED Directorate.
During the culmination programme of the five-day event MK Mero Principal Secretary, PHED stressed that the Government of India is giving much importance to Sujal and Swachh Goan and through the Jal Jeevan Mission which was launched this year. In the state the mission envisages to connect all the villages with pipe water with 50 litre per person and to every household as far as possible. “The recent budget has announced Rs. 3.50 crore to be used for accomplishing this mission,” he announced. This initiative will ease the life of the women folks and improve the life of the villagers, Mero added.
Further, he also urged the trainees to impart quality training and knowledge to all the corners of the villages and look towards “communitizing” the mission. He also asked the trainers to take the message of “water and sanitation” towards “strategizing sustainability and improving health of the people.” Mero also stated that awareness on how to minimize wastage of water and preserve and conserve ground water should be given to trainees in villages.
Few villages in the state have been selected as pilot villages for experimentation and further the mission is set to continue till 2024.
Lead trainer and Wash Specialist PriMove Laxmikant S Shinde stated that Sujal and Swacch Gaon is the main component of the Jal Jeevan Mission. The mission is expected that community participation will be the outcome of Sujal- Safe water and Swachh- Clean village. The training is imparted to master trainers at district level who will go back and train village functionaries so that every village will come up with a need based action plan for safe and clean village model.
