DIMAPUR, APRIL 2 (MExN): The Sumi Hoho today issued an open memo to the Nagaland State Chief Minister, apprising the latter of grievances regarding the Khelhoshe Polytechnic, Atoizu.
A press note from the Sumi Hoho reminded that it had on several occasions appealed to the concerned government authorities to implement the decision of the Nagaland Government Cabinet decision taken on December 17, 2007 to upgrade the institution from the present polytechnic institute to the degree level Civil Engineering College.
“Now even after a decade, upgradation is yet to be done. The assurances of the concerned officials to our repeated appeals have only become lip services as the government remained adamant. Instead of upgrading the college, the department is shifting out some departments of studies elsewhere,” it lamented. It informed that Khelhoshe Polytechnic, Atoizu is the oldest polytechnic institute in the entire state of Nagaland, established in the year 1972 as the Nagaland Polytechnic, which was later renamed as Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu.
It said that the location of the institute is “very congenial, enough area of land for operation and expansion in future, enough infrastructures available to start with and cooperation from the local people and NGOs are assured.” Since the institute is located in the centre of Nagaland, once this polytechnic is upgraded to the Degree level, the entire state is going to be benefitted, it added.
As such, the Sumi Hoho urged the CM to look into the matter and take necessary action to upgrade the college to the degree level. “We are firm and optimistic that under your abled and competent leadership, prompt steps will be taken for the people to cherish the achieved landmark,” it expressed hope.
