
Dimapur, April 20 (MExN): Sumi Hoho (SH) and Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) have finally settled the almost century old land dispute between Iphonumi village under Ghathashi subdivision and Khutsami village under Chozuba subdivision.
The amicable settlement was reached after several rounds of sittings and visits to the disputed area of land which is located between the two villages, stated a press release issued by Vihuto Asumi, General Secretary, Sumi Hoho.
The Settlement Order released to the media stated that the terrace cultivation and the seedling bed on the bank of the Tsuyi River which Khutsami villagers have been cultivating shall not be affected. From the point of Wozihu and Yigali streams, a stretch of land measuring 300 metres towards Iphonumi land is given to Khutsami stretching down to Tsuyi River, the Order said.
The settlement, according to the Order, shall supercede the Order dated January 18 & 19, 1947 of CR Pawsey, the then Deputy Commissioner of Naga Hills. The Land Record and Survey Department has been entrusted to erect the boundary pillars as per the Settlement Order of the Joint Court of Sumi Hoho and CPO. In the event of violation of the Settlement Order by any village, a penalty fine of Rs. 5 lakh shall be imposed by the Joint Court, it added.
Meanwhile, the release recounted that way back in 1946 dated January18 & 19, CR Pawsey, the then Deputy Commissioner of Naga Hills, intervened and tried to settle the dispute without success. Unwanted situations and confrontations occurred on various occasions even resulting in the loss of lives of many, it said. “Hostility between the two villagers prevailed for so long. It is now a big sigh of relief for both the SH and the CPO leaders after the settlement of the issue.”
It was informed that a High Power Committee to handle the case was set up by the SH and the CPO comprising the following leaders – Huskha Yepthomi as Convenor, Pusazo Luruo as the Co-convenor with other members – Khehoshe Yepthomi, Vaprumu Demo, Hekhushe Shikhu and Yesonu Veyie. The Settlement Order was signed by the Committee members and countersigned by the Presidents of the two organization – Toniho Yepthomi, President, SH and Kekhwengulo Lea, President, CPO in the presence of several Sumi and Chakhesang leaders and the administrative officers.
