Zunheboto, September 9 (MExN): A three-member delegation of Sumi Hoho is reported to have called on Chief Minister TR Zeliang today at his residential office and apprised him on the urgent need for up-gradation of the oldest Polytechnic in Nagaland, Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu (KPA) to a Degree College.
This was informed in a press release from the Chief Minister’s Office. The Sumi Hoho is also said to have appealed for infrastructure development and compensation to land owners. The Chief Minister, in turn, is reported to have assured the Hoho of taking up the matter on priority basis and to ask the Department of Road & Bridges to repair the roads in the region.
Students say that teachers’ salary not paid since March 2017, DoTE victimizing students
The KPA Students’ Union (KPASU) today informed that the 11 “fixed pay salary” faculty members of the Polytechnic have not been paid since March 2017. This is forcing them to abstain from their duties from September 11, informed the students’ body.
“The authority has been made aware of the prevailing situation several times and earlier also the fixed pay faculties were not paid salaries and only after they agitated in the form of not declaring the examination results only then the concerned authority reacted,” reminded the KPASU in a press release.
The KPASU demanded “immediate positive action” from the concerned authority/Government on or before September 12, “failing to which the students’ community of KPA will be forced to picket the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) and the authority will have to bear all expenses.”
The KPASU had issued information regarding this in the local papers in April, which fell on the government’s deaf ears. “The concerned authority paid no heed which led to excessive delay in semester result declaration thus victimizing the students,” informed the students, who have held the officials of the DoTE “solely responsible for these unpleasant outcomes.”
“If Officers cannot handle their responsibilities then they must also resign from their Post so that others are not affected,” affirmed the KPA students’ community.
While acknowledging that the fixed pay lecturers have sacrificed to the extent possible, the KPASU reminded that the Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu, unlike others, is “located remotely and hence nonpayment of salary for the work that is already done adds to the misery and the authority is solely to be blamed.”
