Dimapur, May 24 (MExN): The new team of the Naga Students Federation today reiterated to pursue the issue of superannuation as the federation’s predecessors did. Responding to criticism of a “section of the society” over the modalities concerning the NSF’s demand, the federation said it is not against any section but “for the general welfare of the society.”
“The new team of the NSF would like to reiterate that we will not deviate from the stance adopted by our predecessors and would carry forward the issue with renewed vigor, determination and commitment” stated a note from the NSF executives today.
According to the NSF, employment opportunities outside the government are very limited in Nagaland “due to near absence of private sector” unlike in other states. “Government job is the only avenue available for the educated youth”, NSF claimed, “to set meaningful employment”. The NSF expressed in the belief that government jobs should have “equitable distribution” and “thus the issue of superannuation has being kept alive”.
Over the criticism against the NSF, the federation said “the NSF stance” is not against any section of the society “but for the general welfare of the society”. ‘To suggest that NSF stance on superannuation is to cut short the happiness and peace of thousand parents is inappropriate,’ it asserted. The NSF claimed to be pursuing the issue “in the interest of the parents and children alike as parents would like to see their children meaningfully employed rather than being a liability to their parents and society.
“NSF being a vibrant civil society exerts pressure on any governments which goes against the interest of the people. However to construe the pressure put by the federation on any government as ‘dictate’ (sic) would be erroneous,” it said. The federation expressed hope that the present state government would “respect the sentiments of the students' community” and work out an acceptable solution to the issue of superannuation.
