DIMAPUR, JULY 13 (MExN ): Nagaland State Governor, PB Acharya today stated that conventional degrees should be supplemented with skill courses.
He said this while addressing the annual conference cum seminar of the Nagaland College Principals Forum (NCPF) at Sazolie College, Jotsoma on July 13.
According to a press note from the PRO to the Governor, Acharya called for an education system to strengthen, empower and develop the youth of the nation and opined that educational institutions play a very important role in nation building.
He said that skill development was the driving force behind the financial growth of any country and skill building was a powerful tool to empower individuals and improve their social acceptance. The Governor recognized that the challenge lies in quantitative and qualitative expansion of facilities for skill training and called on the Principals to impart the right knowledge and skill to their students.
“Our students when they come out of colleges should be employable,” he added.
The Governor further felt it is important to empower the young minds with knowledge but that they should not be self centered. “They should give back to the society once they achieve their educational goals,” he said and encouraged the Principals to inculcate their students with that thought.
He called on the principals to also play their role towards the development of the state. The Governor further urged the colleges to visit villages at regular intervals and to identify the beneficiaries for Central and State Flagship Programmes for the development of the State.
Meanwhile, President of the Association of Indian College Principals (AICP), Prof Dr Subhash Brahmbhatt while delivering a speech on behalf of AICP said that Principals should work for the quality of education and called on the gathering to find ways to inculcate the right knowledge to students. He also encouraged the principals to get their colleges to go for NAC accreditation as it will be needed in the years to come.
President NCPF and Principal Unity College, Dr SK Chhabra delivered the welcome address while Principal, St Joseph’s College, Dr Fr Sebastian said the invocation prayer. The programmed was chaired by General Secretary, NCPF and Principal Kohima Science College, Dr Lily Sema while the vote of thanks was proposed by Principal Oriental College, Dr Ketshukietuo Dzuvichu.
President AICP, Prof Dr Subhash Brahmbhatt and Executive Member AICP Dr Shirish V Chindhade were the resource persons of the one day seminar.
