Nginyeih Konyak and others during sensitization talk on Gender Equity at Baptist College Kohima on February 13

Kohima, February 14 (MExN): “To achieve gender equity, gender equality and empowerment of women cooperation and support of the men is very crucial” stated Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) chairperson W Nginyeih Konyak while speaking at the “sensitization talk on gender equity” held at Rivenburgs Chapel Hall, Baptist College Kohima on February 13.
Konyak said that gender sensitization is the process of understanding the needs of all the genders inclusive of other genders.
She said that fairness and impartiality is the core to promote equity. She cited that discrimination starts from home, happen in workplaces and in terms of wage distribution. Thus to promote equity, equal pay for equal work, leave policies for both the mother and the father of the child are significant, she said.
She also said that one must raise our voice, have an open conversation related to the matter and shared equal responsibilities.
She further challenged the College administration to create safe and equitable working environment and that the teachers also need to create inclusive classroom. She challenged the students to take actions in case of any disparity arise and approach the Commission for any queries.
The Talk was organised by the Women Development Committee (WDC) of Baptist College in collaboration with Nagaland State Commission for Women, Government of Nagaland.
Sevolu Chuzho, member of WDC chaired the program while Veshetsulu Ruho, convenor of WDC delivered keynote address. Suvilu Venuh, member of WDC proposed vote of thanks. B.A 2nd semester students of both Arts and Commerce streams from both Kohima and Sechu attended the programme.
