The Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2018 campaign was launched in Kohima on July 31 at the Ura Academy Hall, Kohima. The launch was organised by the Kohima District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM), PHED Kohima where WATSAN representatives from villages under Kohima district attended. The campaign was launched by Special Guest Vineet Kumar, IAS, Additional Commissioner, Kohima.
The keynote address was delivered by Er Vikienyü Zütso, Executive Engineer, PHED who highlighted briefly on the SSG campaign conceptualized by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation where an independent survey agency has been assigned to develop the ranking of the sanitation status of villages, districts and States in India.
Thepfulie Theünuo, Consultant, DWSM PHED who spoke on the objective of the SSG mentioned that the campaign starts from August 1 till 30 where 60 officials from the Centre will be arriving to Nagaland today and conduct surprise inspection in the villages. Each village, blocks, districts and State will be ranked through the inspection.
“698 districts, 6198 villages and 34,900 public spaces will be inspected and rated on the basis on survey of public places, citizen’s feedbacks on cleanliness, service level progress,” informed Theünuo.
The review of the Village Swachhata Index was facilitated by Er. Vikedule Rhetso, JE Kohima rural Sub division. In his speech, Kumar advocated that cleanliness and sanitation should be everybody’s responsibility. Acknowledging the rich heritage of Naga villages, Kumar also advised the villages to continue to preserve the pride of each Naga village while at the same time lay stress on the well being of the village. According to Kumar, the campaign not only promotes healthy competition but is an opportunity for all villages to keep the village clean and also ensure qualitative growth of all institutions especially schools. Kumar urged everyone to show enthusiasm and create a healthy environment to the children.
The Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018 communication campaign is initiated by the Ministry of Drinking water and Sanitation through an independent survey agency to develop ranking of the 680 districts in India on their rural sanitation status.
The ranking will be based on a comprehensive set of quantitative and qualitative sanitation parameters including data from the SBM G IMIS, district level surveys of public places like schools, Anganwadi centers, PHCs, Bazaars, Panchayats and citizen’s perception of Swachhata and their recommendations for improvement of the program. An independent agency has been hired by the Ministry to visit the villages to undertake the survey of public places and obtain the citizen’s feedback. As part of the Survekshan, States and Districts will be ranked based on sanitation and cleanliness status where the awards will be announced on October 2.
Around 55,000 citizens will be interviewed and their views on sanitation will be taken.
