LONGLENG, OCTOBER 4 (MExN): The District Administration and Longleng Town Council marked Swachh Bharat Diwas and the culmination of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign on October 2 at the DPDB Hall in Longleng. The event was held under the theme "Cleanliness of Nature - Cleanliness of Culture," with Deputy Commissioner W. Manpai Phom serving as the special guest.
According to a DIPR report, DC Phom, in his address, reflected on Mahatma Gandhi’s vision for a clean and developed India, highlighting that sanitation and cleanliness are vital for national progress. He noted that the Swachh Bharat initiative, launched in 2014, aims to transform not only infrastructure but also the daily lives of citizens.
Phom emphasized the global issue of plastic waste contributing to environmental challenges like global warming. He stressed the importance of proper waste disposal and the need to differentiate waste types to mitigate its impact on the environment. He urged the community to adopt a collective approach, asserting that sanitation is not solely the responsibility of municipal authorities but requires active participation from the public.
The Deputy Commissioner called for collaboration among colony leaders and ward representatives, encouraging them to develop comprehensive plans to address cleanliness and sanitation needs within their communities.
During the event, prizes were awarded to winners of various competitions held throughout the campaign, including essay writing, slogan creation, painting, and awards for the best waste-to-art projects and cleanliness target units.
Isaac P. Pongshi Keikung from the Longleng Town Council presented a PowerPoint highlighting key issues and solutions for effective sanitation services. The welcome address was given by SDO (C) Meyazungba Jamir, while EAC Imkongnukla Ao proposed the vote of thanks. The program was chaired by EAC Tsalimse Sangtam.
The culmination event was attended by representatives from various wards, churches, NGOs, and students from local schools.
