Tall towers or trees around Dimapur airport illegal: AAI

May lead to closure of Dimapur Airport for commercial operations

Dimapur, March 28 (MExN): The Airport Authority of India, Dimapur Airport today informed that there are a large number of high mast/mobile tower structures and tall trees around Dimapur airport which are “posing safety hazards for departing and arriving aircrafts.” 

A circular issued by the Dy General Manager (AERO), AAI, Dimapur Airport, MS Ramesh informed that such tall towers and trees, if not controlled “may lead to unsafe operations and even lead to closure of Dimapur airport for commercial operations.” 

In this regard, Ramesh pointed out that the “Gazette Notification by Government of India Vide S.O 1589 (E) under the section 9 A of the aircraft Act 1934, no persons or organizations shall build or erect building or structure or grow or plant any tree higher then the specified height clearance around the Airport for which No Objection Clearance (NOC) has to be obtained from Airports Authority of India on behalf of Government of India”. 

Therefore, any building, tower, installation or chimney that has been constructed/erected or any trees that has grown in violation to this notification shall be considered as illegal, the release stated.
