Tamenglong district bandh from August 10

Several organisations have announced to impose 48 hours bandh of Tamenglong district starting from August 10. The bandh will be called under the aegis of Joint Action Committee on Tamenglong and Jiribam district Boundary Encroachment Issues.


The organizations which are behind this Joint Action Committee are Zeme Naga Council Manipur (ZNCM),  Liangmai Naga Council (LNC), Rongmei Naga Council  (RNC), Inpui Naga Union,  kuki Chief Association (KCA), Tousem Area Student's  organization (TASO),  Rongmei Naga Youth Organization (RNYO), Rongmei Naga Students’ Organization (RNSO), Zeme Students’ Organization (ZSO), Liangmai Naga Katina Ruangdi (LNKR), Thalou Students’  Association (TSA) of Tamenglong-Jiri branch, Kuki Students Organization ( KSO) of Tamenglong-Jiri branch,  Kuki Inpi of Jiribam and Tamenglong Districts, Social Welfare Forum of Jiri-Imphal Road and Liangmai Naga Youth Organization of Tamenglong district.


The bandh is to demand that the Jiri Police Station at Tatbung village in Tamenglong district be immediately removed and be replaced by Tamenglong district police.


Another demand is that, people who settle or purchase lands from Tousem subdivision of Tamenglong district should pay tax to Tamenglong district administration.


They also demanded that Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) and staffs, police and doctors should be stationed at Tousem headquarters immediately.


They further demanded that the road from Kaipundai to Tousem, from Tamenglong to Tousem via Azuram should be immediately restored.


“If the concerned authorities do not pay any heed after the 48-hour bandh, we will resort to more intensified forms of agitation,” cautioned the organizations.
