Tap water connection to all rural households by March 2023: Jacob

Nagaland Minister for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), N Jacob Zhimomi today assured that the State Government would provide Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to all rural households in Nagaland as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) by March 2023.

He said this while addressing the PHED’s mid-year review meeting on JJM in Kohima on September 24.

Zhimomi urged the Executive Engineers of the department to give extra efforts to achieve the targeted coverage of the flagship scheme. “We have done well but we can do much better,” Zhimomi said and further told the EEs to prepare the plan appropriately.

Observing that progress of work has been slow with barely 14.39 per cent of the targeted household, the Minister said there is no fund constraints and urged the department to increase progress. 

He also directed them to see that the pace of progress is visible and set the targets on a daily basis.

The Minister further wanted to see that there is 100 percent coverage of the scheme in the health centres, Anganwadi centres and educational institutions.

Zhimomi announced that incentives/rewards will also be given to the best performing districts. The Minister informed that another review meeting will take place in November this year.

Chief Engineer, PHED, Er Repangyangba Longkumner meanwhile informed that 3,85,699 households will be covered under the JJM in Nagaland.

As of September 23, 2021, a total of 93,121 FHTCs have been covered in the state. The FHTC target for Financial Year 2021-22 is 2,06,363.

On the status of tap connections in schools, he informed that of the targeted 2,271 schools, connections have been provided to 2,220 which is 97.75 per cent.

However, tap connections in Anganwadis are less as of the 3,980 Anganwadi centres, connection is provided to 1,474 of them at 37.03 per cent.

Longkumer said that 2,506 uncovered Anganwadi centres would be completed by December this year.

On the status of tap connections to ashrams and other public institutions, he said of the 1,298 gram panchayats or village council halls in the state, 229 have tap connections while 1,069 would be completed by February 2022.

Of the 760 health centres, he said 676 including 34 Community Health Centres would be connected by November, 143 Primary Health Centre by December 2021 and 499 would get the tap connections by February 2022. 

Later, the Minister handed over prizes to the winners of the National Level Short Film Competition ‘Swacchata filmo ka Amrit Mahotsav’ at the Nagaland State level.

State level award for geography was won by Rongsentula (Mokokchung: The Green Sight project, Mopungchuket village), with the 2nd prize going to  Sosinle (Kohima) and the 3rd prize going to Aremo (Wokha). State level award for thematic category was won by Rongsentula (Folk Chanters, Mokokchung). The 1st and 2nd runner ups were Nohochem (Tuensang) and Horili (Kiphire).
