Taxation ‘staining and denting’ Naga national movement, says CNCCI

Dimapur, April 27 (MExN): The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) has urged the Naga Political Groups and leaders to “reason and speak to their conscience” and immediately do away with taxation in the name of the Naga national movement.

A press release from the CNCCI Media Affairs on Tuesday stated that many Naga Political Groups have been “Innovating and scheming to extract and exploit the business community and consumers by coining different taxation names.” It said that such taxations have “become a full time job in Nagaland staining and denting the most noble and honourable movement of Naga people.”

“Today, the age old taxation system such as house tax, ration tax, yearly tax, godown tax, transport tax, item tax, agency tax, MRP tax etc could not quench the thirst and greed of many leaders of the Naga national movement. Never in the imagination of the business community and the Naga public that the Naga political groups and its leaders will stoop so low to come up with Mistiri Tax and Jugali Tax, an incomprehensible embarrassment to Naga National movement,” the release stated.
Without going into details, the CNCCI expressed “full solidarity with the furniture business community and EDBA,” while asserting that it has made its position clear to the state Government that “enough of unjustified taxation has made Nagaland most unfriendly business destination and environment in the entire country.” It further demanded that the government immediately answer the Naga public and business community on its stand on such taxation and make public what action and steps it has taken to protect the business community and the public over the years.
