Morung Express News Dimapur | April 28   The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) declared the result for prestigious 2017 Civil Services Examination on April 27 and recommended a total of 990 candidates - 750 men and 240 women - for appointment to various central government services.   Anudeep Durishetty, currently serving Indian Revenue Service officer, was ranked 1 in India’s top competitive exams.   However, it is the success stories of second ranked Anu Kumari and others, which are truly inspiring as real-life achievers.   Hailing from Haryana, Kumari graduated in Physics from the Delhi University. According to an Indian Express report, 31-year-old Kumari, a mother of four year old child, was working for a private sector company for the last 9 years but decided to prepare for the examination as she was “not fully satisfied with her work in the private sector and wanted a more meaningful job.” Since June 2016, Kumari was living with her parents in order to prepare for the examination that was conducted in June 2017 and she credited her mom, aunt and my family for the success. In Sumaliyai town of Rajasthans Jaisalmer district, Kushal Dan, a tea stall owner is a proud father, PTI News Agency reported.   His son, Deshal Dan (24) secured 82nd rank in his maiden attempt exam without any formal coaching.   "I worked hard for my family, which I believe is now paying back. It will give me satisfaction when people at our tea stall will talk about my sons hard work. He has set example for others who want to make it big in their life," Kushal Dan said on his son’s achievement.   The story of M Sivaguru Prabakaran, ranked 101, is equally inspiring.   According to a Times of India report, Prabakaran, who hails from Tamil Nadu, gave up his dream of pursuing an engineering degree in 2004 as his family couldn’t afford the money to help him attend counselling session.   “What followed was an extraordinary tale of grit and determination that took the son of an alcoholic from Melaottankadu village in Pattukottai in Thanjavur district to the platforms of the St Thomas Mount Railway Station and the hallways of IIT Madras,” it said. Now to hallowed civil service job.   “I couldn’t continue my education after Class XII because of my family’s financial situation,” Prabakaran told the TOI.   “I worked as a sawmill operator for two years and did a bit of farming. Whatever money I could muster, I spent some towards my family and saved some for my education. I wasn’t prepared to let go of my dreams,” he said.   Studying under the tutor during the weekend, Prabakaran would take shelter in the platforms of the St Thomas Mount railway station. He would return to Vellore for the week to attend his college and made a small income working his off hours at a mobile recharge outlet, the report said.   This was Prabakaran’s fourth attempt at clearing the UPSC exams.   Often in the news for wrong reason, the citizen of Jammu and Kashmir has reason to cheer and celebrate. At least 15 candidates from J&K qualified 2017 exam, according to another PTI report.   Among those selected, three candidates have made it to the top 100. Three Srinagar resident including 31st ranked Fazal ul Haseeb also crack the exam. The others were Rahul Bhat (68) and Abhishek Sharma (69).   According to from various media report, around 20 people from North East qualified the exam with Assam leading the pack with around 15 successful aspirants, with two candidates in top 100 - Bipasha Kalita and Swapnaneel Paul ranked 41 and 64 respectively.   Manipur had four candidates with Pooja Elangbam securing 81st rank.
