Teaching as the ‘noblest profession’ and the importance of teachers and their invaluable service to the society as well as their roles and responsibilities were highlighted prominently today as Nagaland honoured teachers in a befitting manner across the state.
At the state level teachers’ day celebration at NBCC Convention Hall here, 14 teachers have been conferred with the prestigious State Level Teachers Award 2019.
In honour of teachers, educational institutions both private and government across the state have been declared holiday on September 6.
Teachers as influencers
Addressing the celebration as special guest, Nagaland’s chief secretary Temjen Toy, IAS said that teachers have so much influence over children and therefore, the roles and responsibilities of the teachers are manifold and should be incumbent on all the teachers to give, to project, to teach what is right.
Teachers are not only the builders of the nation but they are the influencers of the characters of the nation, he said.
Teaching is not only about academics, but it is also about life skills as well, he added.
Toy further told the teacher gathered that said the profession they have chosen may be the most important act to a happy, developed and prosperous Nagaland.
‘No other profession can mould and shape so many lives, therefore, teachers should remember that as they touch lives, they are also being watched by their students since children observe, watch, and learn from their teachers,’ he added.
Assiduously maintain integrity In a message read out at the celebration, Nagaland’s governor RN Ravi conveyed best wishes to all the teachers who with their sincerity, dedication and tireless commitment have been shaping and nurturing a wholesome growth of children as proud and productive citizens of the country.
Governor urged upon all the teachers from those teaching the nursery kids to those in the universities, in the formal as well as informal institutions of learning, to always remember that they are the shapers and guardians of our future.
Our young generation imbibes ethical values of good citizenship by observing the conduct of their teachers and acquires their intellectual heft by transmission and growth of knowledge from the intellectual strength of their teachers, he said.
Ravi called upon the teachers to assiduously maintain the integrity of their calling, which is the highest among all, by their impeccable personal and professional conduct and help Nagaland gain its long overdue glory.
Further, Ravi expressed gratitude to the entire teaching community of the state for their valuable services to the state and the nation.
Teaching a noble profession
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in his message stated that teaching is one of the noblest professions.
“It is also a very demanding and challenging one. It is not merely the process of teaching a child from books but of inculcating high moral values for life itself; and of equipping the right attitudes and skill sets to be a well rounded and responsible citizen,” he said adding the impact a teacher has on a child is one that last a lifetime.
Rio acknowledged the tireless efforts and sacrifices made by all teachers and encouraged them to continue their selfless service for the well being of the students who are the future of our state and nation.
“It is my prayer that God will bless each of them abundantly with knowledge, perseverance and good health in the days to come,” Rio stated.
