Tension along Assam- Nagaland ‘contained’ after prompt intervention by Administration

“Necessary prompt action” of Administration and Security forces under Tuli Division has contained tense “situation for the time being” arising out of land clearance along Assam-Nagaland Border under Tuli Division in Mokokchung district.  

According to an official source, the tension erupted when a group of "Assamese people along with the security provided by “Assam Police personnel and Administration of Sivasagar District” started clearing land for setting up of Police Outpost at a spot located at Watiyongpang Nagaland Gate on July 23.  

According to Wameken Village Council, the spot is a traditional Jhum area of its villagers.  

In retaliation, on July 24, “as a legitimate landowner, the Wameken Citizen en-mass drive out the encroachers” enhancing “the tension in the area,” according to the source.  

“However, with necessary prompt action of Administration and Security forces under Tuli Division have contained the situation for the time being,” it added.  

The local MLA of Amguri Assembly Constituency Prodip Hazarika also visited the spot the ease the tension, it was informed.
