Test of truth: Conduct judicial enquiry

Dimapur, Oct 31 (MExN): Referring to the statement of O P Rathor, DGP that “there was ‘absolutely’ no basis nor hard facts to these ambiguous allegations”, the Chhattisgarh PUCL has challenged the DGP to follow the democratic tradition and appoint a High Court Judge to conduct a Judicial Enquiry into the human rights violations by the Jalwa Judum/Security Forces/ NAGA IRB, including the extra-judicial killings, rape and lootings etc. The PUCL was responding to the letter written by the DGP Chhattisgarh to his counterpart in Nagaland denying any complaints against the Naga IRB jawans.

It may be mentioned that the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) was founded in October 1976 by Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narain during the Emergency Rule in India. It had amongst its National Presidents legal luminaries like Late Adv  V M Tarkunde, Sri Rajendar Sachchar (Former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court), Dr. Rajni Kothari ( world renowned Social Scientist). Presently Adv K G Kannabiran (Senior Advocate who is famous for breaking the bone of Secunderabad Conspiracy Case) is the National President of PUCL, Prof. Y Chhibbar as General Secretary.
