Bounden duty to supply the best as far as possible: DIMUL

Dimapur, March 25 (MExN): The matter of milk adulteration has been “publicized without intimation of the intention to have the food article so analysed,” states a press release from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DIMUL, Dr. Mhasizokho Lhoushe. Reacting to news reports about the presence of adulterants like urea, detergent, and traces of nitrate or pond water in their milk products, DIMUL, neither denying nor accepting the claim, says “the random findings were simply publicized without confirmatory tests conducted from accredited laboratory/recognized laboratory.”

While claiming their “bounden duty and commitment” to supply consumers with “the best as far as possible”, DIMUL’s CEO informed that “We carry out weekly check on adulteration at all collection centers/points.” Moreover, he suggests that “Tetra pack milk exported to even European and Western countries from renowned companies such as AMUL and GO MILK are reported to have traces of detergents as made out in the media.”

The press release also highlights the background of DIMUL’s work. The Central Dairy managed by the Dimapur District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited was promoted by the department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Government of Nagaland during 1985-86 initially under Operation Flood ll and thereafter under Integrated Dairy Development Programme. The Milk Union provides logistic technical support to the affiliated societies which include Milk Testing equipments, animal health care and Vaccination, Artificial Insemination, fodder cultivation and balanced cattle feed to the producers. At the producer level such Milk testing equipments are used for control of quality before raw materials reach the Dairy. On reception the raw milk undergoes the statutory checks for quality and is accepted only after finding it to be of satisfactory quality.  DIMUL is owned by the farmers who supply the produce, who run it as a business enterprise.
