DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 13 (MExN): The Department of Education at Tetso College organized a Community Outreach Program at the Anitet Early Intervention Centre, Aoyimti, Dimapur, on February 1. The program, exclusively for the students of the BA 6th Semester Education Honours, was designed to align with their core paper on ‘Inclusive Education.’ The main objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to inclusive education and help them adapt to inclusive learning environments.

The program began with a brief introduction and welcome address by the centre's staff, Jennifer, who oriented the students on the practice of inclusivity in a real classroom setting. She emphasized the importance of early intervention in inclusive education for the proper growth and development of children.

Jennifer also outlined the institution’s timetable, which is designed to support the child's developmental progress, and highlighted the critical role teachers play in understanding each child's individuality and adapting learning methods accordingly in an inclusive setup.

Following the introduction, the students were given a guided tour of the facilities, including classrooms and specialized learning materials, allowing them to experience firsthand the structured support systems for children with diverse learning needs.

A significant part of the program was an interactive session with special educators, who shared valuable insights into Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), intervention strategies, speech and occupational therapy, and behavioral management techniques. The students were also able to observe demonstrations of adaptive teaching methods, reinforcing their theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom.

One of the most engaging segments of the program was the Q&A session, where students asked insightful questions about the challenges and opportunities in inclusive education. Topics discussed included the role of teachers in fostering an inclusive environment, the importance of collaboration between educators and therapists, and the need for greater awareness and advocacy for inclusive education policies.

The visit concluded with reflections from the students, many of whom expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to witness inclusive education in action. They acknowledged that the experience deepened their understanding of diverse learning needs and equipped them with practical strategies to support students in an inclusive classroom setting.
