The Thahekhu Village Council (TVC) has pointed out that numerous vehicles, both light and heavy, were regularly plying along Rangapahar Railway Crossing route via Thahekhu Village aftermath the damage of bridge at Nagarjan, leading to traffic congestion and further worsening the unmaintained road.
With commuters ignoring the restriction imposed upon heavy vehicles to ply along the village approach road, the TVC along with GBs, Thahekhu Village Students’ Union and other frontal bodies deployed volunteers at various sections within the village on Friday to enforce the restriction.
Heavy vehicles are allowed entry from left side of Thahekhu tower junction while approaching from Dhobinallah side and exits near GHS Thahekhu. Heavy vehicles coming from Rangapahar railway crossing side also takes the same route.
The number of heavy vehicles plying the route increased manifold after the culvert at Khashiram near The Maple Tree School caved-in partially owing to which army vehicles have avoided the route and plying along Thahekhu road. According to TVC members, the current route specified for heavy vehicles was a State PWD road which they informed had been neglected for the last 10-15 years.
They have appealed the responsible department to give due importance to the road which has become an alternative but widely used road by the public.
The TVC said that it may be compelled to close the route for public if the department do not maintain the road which is being improved upon annually by the village council and VDB.
Meanwhile, the TVC has requested commuters playing within the village road to comply with the speed limit and cooperate with the village authorities. Further, the TVC has informed about free public toilets and urinals constructed at various locations along the route.
