Kohima, August 18 (MExN): Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) former speaker Thenucho Tunyi and Rajya Sabha MP KG Kenye mourned the sudden demise of Chupfuo Kense, who passed away on August 17.

Chupfuo will be remembered as a seasoned politician and an active social worker, having served the people with the best of his abilities. A kind hearted man with a sharp wit, he was always able to hold conversations with interest and a sense of warmness, stated Tunyi in a condolence message.

“During Chupfuo’s most active years as a politician, I had the privilege of witnessing him withstand tremendous pressure during a time of political upheaval. He stood firm and was steadfast in his allegiance despite the many enticements from opposing political parties. My association with him began in 1982, and since then he held my respect and admiration to the highest degree as a friend and as a colleague,” Tunyi stated.

While Chupfuo’s contributions are many but his most significant ones have been perhaps toward the Christian mission of the church, Tunyi said, while adding that Chupfuo donated a sizeable plot of land at Dimapur for the construction of a Prayer Centre.

In his death, we have lost a prominent leader and a generous man, Tunyi stated and prayed to Almighty to grant peace and comfort to the bereaved family.

KG Kenye: In a separate message, Kenye described late Chupfuo as an upright man of high moral integrity “who had immensely and tirelessly rendered his selfless service towards the welfare of Naga people as Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly for two tenures.”

In his departure the Naga people has lost a prominent leader, a mentor and a refined personality. His exemplary life and contributions towards the well-being of our people will remain as a testimony for all times to come, Kenye stated.

On behalf of his family, Kenye extended condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
