Dimapur, February 21 (MExN): President of the Tenyimi Peoples’ Organization (TPO) for Nagaland, Assam and Manipur states, Z M Sekhose, in anticipation of the forthcoming occasion of the 16th Tenyimi Day on February 22 called upon all Tenyimi brothers and sisters to observe the day in a befitting manner and “to renew our unity and brotherhood among ourselves.” He also appealed to all Tenyimi people, wherever they may be, to observe Tenyimi Day which was formed to protect the welfare of the Tenyimi brothers and sisters and to “foster unity and brotherhood among ourselves only on the officially declared February 22nd.”
The TPO president in his message said that February 22 had been chosen by the Tenyimi people to remind them of their common ancestry and reunite among themselves and to foster unity and brotherhood amongst them. He also stated that in the bygone years, certain factors such as the practices of headhunting by our forefathers and lack of communication between our own brothers had forced us to be illusive with each others despite knowing well the historical and biological truth.
“Today, I am proud to proclaim that the Tenyimi blood brothers consisting of the Angami, Chakhesang, Impui Maram, Memei, Pochury, Poumai, Rengma, Thangal and Zeliangrong has realised the truth what nature has endowed to us and came together as one which no human can undo it and will continue to remain till heaven and earth exist. Though we are called by ten different names, the Tenyimi are one entity who shares a deeply rooted cultural heritage and inherent values,” Sekhose said in his message.
The TPO president further stated: “But, as the saying goes, ‘there’s a time for everything’; we’ve realised the need to uphold the truth and proclaimed to the world the common ancestry and history of the Tenyimi as a people.”
