Third batch of BASE inaugurated at DBYC

Dimapur, April 15 (MExN): The Third batch of BASE (Bosco Academy for Skill and Employment) was inaugurated today at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Kohima. It was inaugurated by R. Ramakrishnan AIS, Secretary to the Governor of Nagaland.  In his speech, he appreciated the inborn talents and skills of youth of North Eastern state and emphasized the need to make best use of the opportunity to make a bright future. Also present at the inaugural function, were Fr. Dennis, the Rector and Principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Kohima, Andrew Gangmei the state coordinator of DB Tech, Nagaland region, Fr. Theotimus Lakra, Director of Don Bosco Youth Centre, Kohima and representatives of parents of trainees.
A press note issued by Fr. Theotimus Lakra, Director, Don Bosco Youth Centre Kohima mentioned that the BASE programme began at Don Bosco Youth Centre Kohima last year in the month of June. Since then two batches have successfully completed the course. From the first batch, 24 students passed out and of which 14 are placed. From the second batch, 79 completed the course, and 62 are placed in different companies and organizations in different parts of the country. The courses offered at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Kohima are Hospitality, Retails and ITES as common domain.
DB Tech a network of 125 centres in India, attempts to bridge the financial and social divide between those who have access to opportunities and those who are increasingly being marginalized from new economy jobs. Set up in 2008 by the Salesians of Don Bosco, DB Tech addresses the issues of unemployment and lack of skilled manpower with a market based approach that is sensitive to the socio-economic needs of marginalized youth in the 18 – 35 years age group. DB Tech provides employment-linked, market-driven vocational courses of short duration to the economically and socially marginalized youth.
