Thousands pay homage to late Penmi Kikon

Dimapur, January 29 (DIPR): Thousands of mourners from all walks of life bid a tearful farewell to late Penmi Phazang Kikon, wife of BJP MLA Mmhonlumo Kikon, at the funeral service which was held in their private residence near Toluvi village, Dimapur on January 29.  

Union Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju who also attended the funeral service shared the moment of grief with “dear friend” Mmhonlumo Kikon and prayed for peaceful departure of the demised soul. Describing the journey of life to be full of uncertainties, Rijiju opined that during the limited journey of life, one has to value life with love and compassion.  

Chief Minister of Nagaland, T.R. Zeliang recalled the times when late Apen (as lovingly called by friends and family) attended service at the CMs banquet hall and said that he found her to be a God fearing woman who could have rendered so much of service to the state, if not for her untimely demise.  

The heart touching farewell speech of the young legislator Mmhonlumo Kikon, husband of late Apen, moved the gathering to tears. Stating that Apen was the one and only love of his life, Kikon said that he was deeply saddened and could not accept the reality that she would leave him so soon at such a young age. He described his late wife as a gentle soul, patient, loving, caring, his best friend, counsellor and tower of his strength. "Though God has His own plans, I still say it's not fair," Kikon rued.  

Visibly emotional, Mmhonlumo promised to his late wife that he would march ahead with the visions they had together. "I will miss her dearly and her absence would be irreplaceable and deeply felt," he added while thanking everyone for coming to pay their last respect to his beloved wife.  

Condolence message of many including the Governor of Nagaland P.B. Acharya was read out during the funeral service.  

Friends of late Apen, family members, Lotha Hoho, representatives from Tangkhul community and many others spoke reflecting the memories and cherishing the life of the departed soul.  

Late Apen expired on January 28 from Zion hospital Dimapur after a brief illness. She leaves behind her bereaved husband and 2 daughters.
