Amid the prevailing leadership crisis within the party, suspected militants planted a bomb at the residence Manipur People’s Party (MPP) president Oinam Jugindro in Imphal West district on Saturday.

A police source said that suspected militants planted a hand grenade at the house of Jugindro at Top Siphai under Wangoi police station of Imphal West district.

The hand grenade was found at the kitchen garden on the side of front courtyard of the house today, around 10:00 am. As soon they discovered it, family members informed the police.

A team of Wangoi police who rushed to the house along with bomb experts defused the explosive, around 11:00 am, the source said.

The bomb threat at the house of the Jugindro was only three days after he was removed from the post of party president by the central committee of MPP.

Since then, MPP, one of the oldest regional parties of Northeast which once ruled the state, is reeling under leadership crisis as the central committee on dissolved posts of the general secretary, secretaries and central cells which functioned under Jugindro’s presidentship.

While removing him from the post, the central committee of the MPP further constituted a nine member team to probe the charge of misappropriation of money.
