Imphal | November 3
Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured in an IED blast triggered by suspected insurgents at Khurai Ahongei in Imphal East late Saturday.
The injured BSF personnel were ASI Lalkumar (54) of 150 BSF from Agartala (Tripura), Koram Mahindra of 131 BSF (30) from Chhattisgarh and Santram (23) of 108 BSF from Chhattisgarh. They sustained splinter injuries and were immediately rushed to RIMS hospital, Imphal. Their conditions are stated to be out of dangers.
The blast was triggered near the bank of Imphal River. Police said that the blast was triggered around 11.30 pm.
The injured personnel of BSF are recently deputed in the state from outside the state to assist the police in the maintenance of law and order in the wake of widespread mass demonstrations as part of ‘alert meeting’ of the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI).
They are among the security personnel deployed at Minuthong.
So far none of the insurgent groups owned up the responsibility for triggering the blast even as police suspected hands of insurgents behind the blast. Police further suspect the blast was targeted at the security personnel.
Following the blast, Imphal East district police conducted a house to house search operation at Soibam Leikai Mary Leirak, the locality adjacent to the Khurai Ahongei on Sunday in the morning.
During the operation, the police verified persons staying at the rented houses. There was no report of picking up any suspect during the operation, police said.
Meanwhile, denouncing the blast, non-locals of Telipati area of Khurai Ahongbung staged a sit-in-protest on Sunday.
“We strongly condemn the bomb blast,” read the banner under which the sit-in-protest was staged.
