Kohima, February 19 (MExN): The Shishu Sarothi organized an award ceremony and induction programme in Kohima in association with the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities as part of “Indus Towers Scholarship Program” 2020-21 is one of the key CSR initiatives of Indus Towers Limited (formerly Bharti Infratel Ltd). 

According to a press release received here of the 120 students selected from across the North East, three students with disability from Nagaland were felicitated during an event on February 8 at the Hotel Japfü, Conference Hall. 

An induction session was also conducted for the scholars to orient them about the methodology of claiming and mode of scholarship disbursement. 

Diethono Nakhro, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Government of Nagaland as the chief guest of the event felicitated the scholars by presenting the certificates of scholarship. She encouraged the student scholars with her inspiring speech and exhorted them to always believe in themselves and their own abilities.

Indus Towers Scholarship Program, implemented by Shishu Sarothi, was launched in 2016 with the objective of encouraging and supporting students with disability and has since supported 196 students from across the North East pursuing higher education during the first phase of the program. In the second phase that commenced in April 2020, the program will support 600 students over a period of five years (120 students each year).

The selected students will be provided support towards their educational fees till the completion of their course, and a few are also being granted additional assistance towards study materials/assistive devices/hostel/conveyance.
