ANCSU gives Department seven days to fill vacancies
Kohima, March 10 (MExN): Three government colleges in Nagaland are reportedly running without principals.
The affected institutions are Dimapur Government College, Zunheboto Government College, and Wangkhao Government College.
Accordingly, the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU), on behalf of the colleges, has expressed deep disappointment over the Higher Education and Technical Education (H&TE) Department’s continued inaction regarding the vacant principal positions.
Despite repeated appeals, these critical posts remain unfilled, severely affecting the academic and administrative functioning of the colleges, the ANCSU stated in a representation to the Commissioner & Secretary, H&TE Nagaland.
The absence of leadership has created confusion among students, faculty, and staff and the situation is particularly concerning as the colleges prepare for the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) assessment and work towards implementing the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, it highlighted.
The transition to postgraduate programmes demands academically qualified and experienced leadership, which cannot be compromised, it added.
To this end, the ANCSU urged the department to immediately appoint principals in these colleges as per the Nagaland Higher Education Service Rules 2015 and avoid further disruptions.
It also demanded the removal of what it termed “retired principals and professors currently managing college affairs.”
Failure to act within seven days from the date of the representation will compel the union to initiate democratic protests to safeguard the academic interests of students and faculty, it cautioned.
There is no valid reason for further delays as the issue has been raised multiple times, it added, urging decisive and urgent action to prevent unnecessary confrontation with the student community.
