
Two victims reported to be pregnant
DIMAPUR, MAY 17 (MExN): Three persons, two women and one man, were found hacked to death at Boro-Lengri village, Karbi-Anglong on Friday, May 17. The bodies of the three victims, identified as Ronsuo Odyuo (around 30 years of age), Alice Sumi (21 years), and Shanchobeni Odyuo (20 years), were found in two locations, this morning with cut wounds on the head and neck. Ronsuo Odyuo, from Changpang village and Alice Sumi were said to be a newly married couple, while Shanchobeni Odyuo was the husband’s sister. The Changpang Land Owners Union informed that both Alice and Sanchobeni were pregnant.
Dimapur police, who went to the crime scene, said that the man’s body was found first at the Boro-Lengri ground, about half a kilometer away from his house. The bodies of the two women were later found at the house. Shanchobeni was said to have recently come from the village for medical treatment and was staying at her brother’s house in Boro-Lengri. She was found naked but it could not be ascertained if she had been sexually assaulted, it was added. A dao, suspected to be the murder weapon, was found underneath Ronsuo’s car.
The car, the dao and the bodies were taken into custody by the Khatkhati police. Further details could be known only after the medical report return, stated the Superintendent of Police, Karbi-Anglong when contacted over phone.
Meanwhile, the Changpang Land Owners Union has condemned the incident, which it termed as “barbaric and inhuman.” The union called for the Diphu police and the Dimapur police to work in coordination and bring to book the perpetrator(s). It also cautioned that if action is not taken within 7 days, the union “would be compelled to take its own course of action.”
Two held for murder in Jharnapani
In another incident, two persons were arrested on May 16 by the police in connection with a murder which occurred on May 15. The two accused, identified as Dilip Oroang (27 years) and Manoj Khujar (25 years) were manual labourers working in Jharnapani and hail from Jharkhand.
According to the SDPO, Dimapur, Relo T. Aye, the duo was caught while they were trying to dispose the body of Oroang’s wife, who was murdered the night before. Oroang and his wife, Roshni were said to have had a quarrel the night before. During the quarrel, Oroang in a fit of rage hit her with a blunt weapon, which killed her, the SDPO added. He along with Khujar were trying to dispose the body early the next morning, when some villagers noticed their suspicious activity and informed the police.
