Three persons including a BSF personnel died due to COVID-19 related illness in Manipur on Sunday. This update has taken the COVID-19 related fatalities to 16 in the state.
According to reports, the BSF personnel posted in the state was the first case of COVID-19 related fatality among Central security personnel in the state.
With the deaths of the three persons on Sunday, the COVID-19 related death cases in Manipur rose to 16, a report of the COVID-19 Common Control Room said.
Two of the three including the BSF personnel died at RIMS hospital while the other one died JNIMS hospital.
The 44-year-old deceased BSF identified as Basantakumar belonged to the 182th battalion BSF based at Korengei in Imphal.
With chronic kidney diseases including uraemic encephalopathy, severe anaemia and COVID associated pneumonia, he was admitted at RIMS hospital on August 14, a hospital source said. He was in intensive care and died at around 9.40 am, it added.
One of the locals who died at JNIMS hospital due to the disease was a 73-year-old from Imphal West district. The last one was a 94-year-old who died at RIMS hospital, the official report said.
