Tension at the Assam-Nagaland border surfaced once again when three persons were found murdered at Old Koro village (bordering Assam) under Wokha District by a group of non-local laborers this evening including a civilian. According to official sources, the victims were identified as Capt. Mhabemo Jami of Yanmhon Old Village, Chumthungo Kikon of Yimpang village both from GPRN/NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) group and Thungchamo Humtsoe from Yanpha village (civilian). The official sources said there was also another person who escaped with injuries. However another report mentioned that the three victims were all cadres of the GPRN/NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) and that they were stoned to death by Mias at Liphayan, Wokha. One person escaped.
ADC Bhandari, Orenthung Lotha said the administration received information from the neutral force, CRPF. However the group of murderers had already fled the scene and none was present by the time the administration team reached the spot. Lotha disclosed that the stones and woods used by the killers as weapons were also found at the spot. Though the actual reason could not be ascertained, it is suspected that the incident was related to tax collection. The ADC said the dead body will be handed over to the relatives after conducting formalities while investigation is on to arrest the culprits.
