Kohima, September 24 (MExN): The Kadamtala Battalion of the Assam Rifles apprehended three NSCN (K) cadres on September 23 with arms from New Kaiphundai area of Tamenglong district in Manipur. According to a press release from the Public Relations Officer (Defence) Kohima, the cadres were involved in “kidnapping a truck driver when he refused to pay the extortion amount.” The cadres also reportedly resorted to firing several rounds of live bullets to intimidate. The incident occurred on NH-37 near Makru Bridge. The Security Forces launched an operation in collaboration with the Manipur Police and apprehended the cadres and recovered two US Made M series Assault Rifles, around 425 rounds of live ammunition and three hand grenades.
