DIMAPUR, AUGUST 2 (MExN): A disillusioned Naga Hoho on Thursday said the Naga people hopes have been crushed again following the attainment of three years since the signing of the Framework Agreement on August 3, 2015.
Despite claims from different Indian agencies that Indo-Naga peace deal is very much in advanced stage and the pact is likely to be signed any time, the Naga Hoho expressed apprehension that it appears highly unlikely.
“…Our last bet for signing the Agreement is during the ensuing Monsoon session of Parliament, however we are fretting that it is likely to vanish into thin air again,” read a press statement issued by communication cell, Naga Hoho.
It anticipated that the Naga people should not expect any political solution in many more years to come if it goes beyond September 2018 considering the forthcoming Parliamentary elections in India.
While stating that enough of negotiations and agreement have been done during the last 21 years of formal and informal political dialogues between the Naga political negotiators and the different Interlocutors on behalf of GoI, the Naga Hoho lamented that even then, the GoI is unable to sign the peace Agreement, but is rather exhibiting an uncompromising attitude and flexibility on symbolic issues which are very dear to the Nagas.
Questioning for how many years more the Nagas will be in dilemma or continue to be in the state of being neither here or there, the Naga Hoho said the Nagas are running behind time and years and therefore must once and for all decide collectively which one is the best option for us.
“It is time for the Naga political negotiators to rethink whether to go ahead with the present system of negotiation without finding any tangible solution or will they continue sitting in their cozy confinements in Delhi, as we believe that India is not prepared for honorable political solution, but will try to buy more and more time blaming the conflict of interest among the Nagas,” the Naga Hoho stated.
Nagaland BJP reiterates support
On the eve of the 3rd Anniversary of the signing of the ‘Naga Peace Accord,’ the State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, Temjen Imna Along has reiterated the party’s support to the talks held between the Government of India and the various Naga political groups while stating that the people of Nagaland and other Naga inhabited areas were eagerly waiting for a final and peaceful settlement of the decades old Naga issue.
Media Cell, BJP Nagaland in a press release recalled that the then Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee accepted the uniqueness of Naga history and situation, which is one of the underlined principles of the agreement. The decisiveness of the current BJP government at the centre in signing of the peace accord is a landmark decision and is welcomed by the Naga people, it claimed.
