DIMAPUR, FEB 8 (MExN): Taking exception to the claims of Shamator as being recognized a ‘Yimchunger HQ’, the Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) has reiterated that Shamator administrative HQ falls under the jurisdiction of the Tikhirs. Stating that Tikhirs have inhabited their ancestral land and will never give up their land to any body nor claim a press note from the TTC pointed out that on January 8, the YAA had stated about claiming of Helipong by the Tikhirs.
To this, the council termed baseless and ‘beyond imagination’ and that Helipong belongs to the Changs as far as knowledge is concerned. With reference to the publication given by the YAA, stating that “the destruction of properties belonging to refugees in Shamator town”, the council termed it as untrue and asked the YAA to clarify regarding using the terminology ‘refugee’ and further queried ‘who are the refugees?’
The TTC said that the YAA should clearly understand that Shamator belongs to the Tikhirs and the Yimchungers residing in Shamator are instead refugees as they came ‘in search of opportunities’. The council clarified that the destruction of houses and properties at Kiusum is not a Limitsung camp but an EAC HQ, which was verified and is known to the DC and SP of Kiphire.
