Dimapur, June 15 (MExN): National Socialist Council of Nagalim General Secretary Th Muivah has expounded that “various pressing issues that confront the Nagas entail an urgent need for an open and honest dialogue amongst us”. “We have come to your land to have a better understanding because the time has come for us to decide our future together again”, stated a message to the Chakhesang people issued by Muivah.
Terming the contribution of the Chakhesang people to the Naga cause as “undoubtedly unique”, Muivah stated that he could assure this fact from his personal testimony. “Your people from every nook and cranny of your land gave us protection and sustained us during the hard days of our struggle. Not even a single day we went hungry and not even a single village failed us. Why I am here today bears testimony to your sincerity and honesty towards the Naga cause”, Muivah stated.
Pointing out that when the ‘history of the world was turning and the imperialist forces were retreating’, the decisions taken by the “elders and leaders in the Naga National Council were firm and right”, he stated. He added that the 1929 memorandum to the Simon Commission, the 1951 plebiscite, August 14, 1947 declaration of ‘Naga independence’ and other ‘national’ decisions determined the course of the Nagas’ history. Muivah acknowledged that the Nagas’ right to self-determination “was salvaged by these historical decisions”.
“Today, we have entered into peaceful political negotiation with the Government of India on three agreed foundation: at the highest level, without pre-condition and outside India in a third country. Afterward, the GOI recognized the unique history and situation of our people in the Amsterdam joint communiqué on July 11, 2002. Our commitment to the historic national decision shall remain firm to the last”, Muivah stated.
On behalf of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim, Muivah extended his deep appreciation to the Chakhesang people under the leadership of the Chakhesang Public Organization for the “warmth and openness with which you have welcomed me and my team in your beautiful Pfutsero town”. Muivah urged that we should “strife together for our cause and reconciliation will come in the name of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ”.
“We will accept only an honourable and negotiated political settlement and in the event of final political settlement we will seek your understanding and we will come to you. I once again remind you all that sovereignty of our people belongs to our people alone”, Muivah stated in conclusion.
The NSCN General Secretary also had words of appreciation for Pfutseromi village. In a separate message, Muivah pointed out that his return to the village after “decades of struggle” had become an “overwhelming experience” since they had come to picturesque Pfutseromi village in a different situation when peace reigns in the land today. “Words cannot express my thanks to you all for the warm welcome accorded to me and my team members”, Muivah stated.
Describing the contribution of Pfutseromi village to the national struggle as “truly significant”, Muivah acknowledged that the village had suffered enough for their commitment to the cause but reassured that it will never be in vain. Informing that it had entered into political negotiation with the Government of India since the declaration of cease-fire on August 1, 1997, Muivah assured that they will stand firm for the task entrusted to them. “We will only seek a negotiated political settlement based on the “Unique history” of the Nagas”, Muivah stated while adding that the “time has come for us to decide our future together and your contribution is once again most called for”. Muivah on behalf of the NSCN thanked the village for the warm reception given and the wholehearted sincerity shown in understanding the common issues that confront the Naga people.
