Contradictory reports surrounded the arrest of an NSCN (IM) cadre suspected to have been involved in the killing of the Arunachal Pradesh MLA Tirong Aboh, his son and 9 others in May.
It was reported by EastMojo late on August 16 that one Yangte Josaham, a lieutenant in the NSCN (IM) and “Area Commander” of Arunachal’s Longding district, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency in Dimapur on August 16.
As on August 17 evening, the local police denied having any knowledge of the incident but it later emerged that the arrest happened in Purana Bazaar early on August 16 morning.
A military source told The Morung Express that it was a covert operation of the NIA assisted by the Assam Rifles. Four NSCN (IM) cadres were apprehended in the operation of which one name was disclosed as Lt. Yangtse Konyak (43 years) and described as a “suspect in the killing of MLA Tirong Aboh."
The other three, who were said to be not involved in the assassination, as per the source, were set to be handed over to the police. Yangtse was said to have been kept in a secure location in Dimapur.
Meanwhile, the police maintained that if at all the arrests occurred; the police were not kept in the loop. The military source on the other hand said that a police representative was present as is normally the norm.
