CM mum on ultimatum, CSOs seek response from DC

Dimapur, October 5 (MExN): Unhappy with the lack of response from the Nagaland Chief Minister with regard to the relocation of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Dimapur-based civil society organisations under the aegis of ‘CSO Core Committee against Shifting of DC Office’ on Tuesday submitted another memorandum, seeking a response from the Deputy Commissioner instead.

Earlier on September 29, the CSOs had given the state government a 5-day ultimatum to reconsider the decision to relocate the DC’s office to the new complex at 7th Mile, Chümoukedima and also cancel a September 7 notice, issued by the Principal Secretary (Home), to shift some branches/cells from the present DC’s office to the new location. The deadline ended on October 5.

In this regard, the civil society organisations held a ‘Mass Citizen Rally’ today, at the Holy Cross junction. The rally was addressed by CSO leaders after which they proceeded to the DC’s office to hand over the memorandum.

According to a press release issued by CSO Core Committee’s the Media Cell, the Core Committee “served a letter to the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur seeking a written reply from the Chief Minister in regard to the said ultimatum (September 29).”

“The Civil Society Organisations shall continue the protest against the shifting of DC Office, Dimapur until the State Government officially reply to their memorandum dated April 4, 2021 and ultimatum dated September 29, 2021,” the release stated. The CSOs further appealed the State Government not to shift any branch or cell from the present DC Office, Dimapur to any other location for purpose of shifting the said office. “And upon any untoward event that occurs in the course of the protest or forceful shifting, the Chief Minister shall be held responsible,” it added.

In the memo submitted to the Dimapur DC on Tuesday, the Core Committee sought response from the DC in connection with the September 29 ultimatum. “...The Dimapur district citizens seek response from your good office in regard to the ultimatum served to the Chief Minister, Government of Nagaland on September 29, 2021,” the letter stated.

Reiterating its demand, the letter stated that the government of Nagaland had turned a deaf ear to the demands and grievances of the citizens of Dimapur district till date. “It is highly deplorable of the government to disdain the voice of its own people even after repeated representations and ultimatum served to the government on several occasions,” it said.

Therefore, the Core Committee “beseech your good self (DC) to respond to the ultimatum served to the Chief Minister by Dimapur district citizens dated September 29,  through you, for the interest of the citizens of Dimapur district,” the memorandum stated.

It also made a mention that the CSOs of Dimapur had formed the Core Committee against Shifting of the DC’s office vide a resolution at a meeting on October 1.

Meanwhile, the Core Committee expressed gratitude to all the citizens of Dimapur for attending the peaceful rally and also requested all the concerned citizens “to be prepared for further course of action on failure of the Government to respond to our demand positively.”
