Pfutsero, August 23 (MExN): The National Tobacco Program, Phek conducted awareness programme on anti-tobacco campaign at Tewelhi Medo Tyrannus Higher Secondary School, Pfutsero on August 21.
The resource person Dr. Reyosalu Lase Vizo, District Nodal Officer, NTCP, Phek shared the Global Youth Tobacco Survey 2009 and the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) 2010, wherein the studies found that 14.6% in the age group of 13-15 years consume tobacco in some form while 19.5% adolescents in the age group of 15-17 years consume tobacco.
The resource person highlighted that those who suffer from oral cancer and tobacco related diseases today all have a history of starting tobacco consumption from their adolescent days.
ighlighting on the harmful effects of tobacco, Dr. Reyosalu Lase Vizo exhorted the students not to pick up tobacco habits and also to those who are already using to give up before it affects their health.
Mathew Rabha, Principal TMT Hr Secondary school also exhorted the students.
