Pointing to roads as the basic component of infrastructure for development, Nagaland’s Governor Nikhil Kumar today said that the NPF led DAN government has been giving, and will continue to give the highest priority to road development.

“Construction of a foothill road, right from Khelma in Peren district to Tizit in Mon district, via Dimapur, Wokha, Mokokchung and Longleng districts will be taken up during the 12th plan,” Kumar said in his address today at the Ist session of the 12th Nagaland legislative Assembly.

In the meantime, Governor said that citizens have equal responsibility to look after their roads, saying “Naga public, both at the individual and community level, need to develop a sense ownership, and take care of our roads. Otherwise, the good efforts made by the Government will be defeated.”

“The new Nagaland Public Work Account Rules 2012 has been framed, which is replacing the old and out-dated Nagaland PWD code”, he said. Kumar hoped that with the active involvement of the State Quality Control Board, such new rules will bring about more accountability and transparency in execution of projects, and improvement in quality of works.
