Totsu is now a recognised village

Wokha, February 19 (DIPR): Established in the year 2007, Totsu Village was on Friday inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Wepretso Mero. Before the village was formed, the area, located about “an hour and half drive away” from Wokha Town, was first inhabited in the year 2004.

Officially inaugurating the Village as chief guest, Mero lauded the villagers for their remarkable effort and genuine concern for developing the village thus far. He expressed happiness that the village had made a dream into reality and especially for the construction of a good village Community Hall in such a short time. On the other hand, the Deputy Commissioner also called on the people to preserve their flora and fauna and to maintain the ecological balance for future development. Sounding a note of caution, he said that the forest should not be destroyed or made barren in the name of bringing development.

Dwelling on the importance of taking up horticulture and other agriculture-related cultivation, he said that the people should realise their importance and take them up as the area is suitable for it. Cultivation should be taken up in a planned manner for making the village prosperous and self sufficient economically, Mero added. The chief guest further called on the villagers to avoid creating unnecessary hurdles, specifically mentioning land disputes saying that they hamper developmental activities. In concluding, he appealed to the people to make Totsu a model village in the district and to strive for peace and prosperity.

Earlier, the chief guest unveiled an inaugural plaque and a marketing shed in the new village. Short speeches were also delivered by the chairman of Kyong Hoho, Yansathung Jami, Jt. Secy (Rtd) Thunglamo Ovung, chairman of Merayan village, Lokushn Tungu, and K Ovung. A highlight of the function included presentation of folksong by the Wokha Town Phiro Eloe Hoho.
