In a significant development, Nagaland today claimed a space on the country’s industrial map as Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated Lady Bug Toy Production unit at Industrial Training Institute, Kohima.
“We must learn the art of business,” said Rio and emphasized on the need to have quality control to prosper in business ventures. “We have to invest into business for income generation,” Rio said and urged the people not to “eat” the seed money.
“Let us become wiser, learn from the past mistakes. We must grow,” he said reminding that the people cannot continue to depend on grants for livelihood. The time has come to start production, export and bring income to the State and family, he urged.
Impressed with the setting of the unit, Rio said that he wanted to see more “Made in Nagaland” labels and at the same time ethnic toys with traditional touch should be taken into design in production to receive due recognition from the outsiders.
“We are very innovative, creative,” he maintained. Rio however expressed dismay that commercial scale has been not been possible as people give little attention on the selling aspect.
The people should give up the habit of giving present sto VVIPs/VIPs then expect big things from the latter in return, he said. Rio also challenged the people not to depend too much on the government, adding that the people should now be in a position to generate and produce. But he assured that the government is there to assist, motivate and create avenues to make ventures fruitful. Referring to the opportunities being extended by the state government, Rio stressed on the need to decide on a particular field and stick to it. He maintained that the hunt for all opportunities would not bring effective result.
Rio urged the people to make the best use of the facility and fund in right perspective. He regretted that many have failed to utilize funds properly, thereby hampering the very objective of schemes.
The Chief Minister also stated that women are doing better than men in the various fields and encouraged them to continue the spirit of sincerity, dedication and commitment in their ventures. Rio was accompanied by Minister for Transport and Communication, Imtilemba Sangtam.
Meanwhile, Rajarshi Chakraborty, Director, Institute of Toy Making Technology (ITMT), Kolkatta assured linkage support, quality, design and buy-back policy to the unit.
Stressing on need to have timely delivery system of finished products, he urged the unit to apply comprehensive planning and strongly urged to go for bigger ventures. Also, Chief Secretary Lalhuma termed the unit as a stepping stone for bigger things to come. “As we are living in the global village, we must think globally and go for larger scale of production” he said.
Nancy Kikon said that the unit would focus towards international standards with indigenous motif. The girls from this unit are trained from ITMT, Kolkatta. The unit is supported by the Chief Ministers’ Corpus Fund and DONOR.
The inaugural function was chaired by Kevileno Angami, OSD Planning, while Narola, NBCC women secretary said a prayer. The vote of thanks was offered by Aolemla Jamir, Assistant Development commissioner.
