Toy products from Nagaland to hit global market soon

Stepping up market linkage with the rest of the world, a nascent Lady Bug Toy Production Unit, Kohima today dispatched over 1000 toys to Nick Nack, Kolkata as the first consignment of their production.With this development, the toy product from Nagaland is ready to hit the global market soon.

Nancy Kikon told The Morung Express that the Unit has dispatched 1393 toys worth Rs 1, 10,066 to Nick Nack of the first order amounting to Rs 2, 58,725. The unit will continue sending the products as per requirement of the latter, said Kikon who looks after the unit. Among the several toy products include Frog Hanging, Cute Bear, Hippo Hanging, Elephant Bag, Crocodile, Smiling Sheep etc. So far, the Lady Bug Toy Production unit has labeled their finished products with a tag Nick Nack, “Made in India.”

Kikon was optimistic that the unit will be able to have its own “Made in Nagaland” label within two years time. The unit will focus on indigenous motif in the coming days, she added. 

Presently 45 girls are involved in this unit. They are doing an excellent job, Kikon said, adding that all the girls were trained from the Institute of Toy Making Technology, (ITMT) Kolkata.

It may be recalled that the unit was inaugurated on August 1 by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. The unit is located at Industrial Training Institute, Kohima. Impressed with the setting of the unit, Rio had then said that he wanted to see more “Made in Nagaland” labels.

Rajarshi Chakraborty, Director, ITMT, Kolkata recently assured linkage support, quality, design and buy back policy to the unit.
