TPO knocks Assam Govt’s door

Dimapur, May 28 (MExN): The Tenyimi Peoples’ Organization today wrote to the chief minister of Assam making a number of demands to rein in the ongoing violence in Assam’s NC Hills.  The TPO demanded that the authorities of Assam government should immediately crack down on “the handful of bloodthirsty DHD-J cadres and stop them from further carrying out their killing spree and attack on our innocent brothers and sisters”. The perpetrators responsible should also be identified and awarded befitting punishment as per law, the organization said.

‘Sufficient’ ex-gratia was also demanded for the next of kin of those killed in the ongoing “hate campaign of the DHD-J”, as well as to make sufficient compensations to those injured, homeless and whose properties have been destroyed.

Another point in the representation demanded immediate measures for rehabilitation and safe return of those rendered homeless and still living in around in relief camps. They must be provided immediate financial assistance so they can return to their villages and start a new life, the TPO stated.

The government of Assam is urged to take necessary measures to win back the confidence of the people by assuring “fully proved safety” and security of the community in The NC Hills district. This measure would thwart any more ugly incidences in the future, it said.

The organization noted that “a handful of arm band of the so called DHD-Jewel group” has unleashed terror in the NC Hills since the early part of this year. They have targeted innocent and peace-loving Tenyimi communities; previous lives have been lost while others have been left injured and thousands rendered homeless, the TPO informed Assam’s CM. Their houses and properties have been razed and the people driven out of their villages while the administration remained a mere spectator, it lamented.

“The TPO strongly believes and hopes that your government will take up the matter very seriously and necessary measures initiated without delay and that normalcy, peace, harmony and peaceful co-existence among the people is restored in NC Hills” it added.
