
DIMAPUR SEPT 30 (MExN): The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, Government of Nagaland, taking serious cognizance of malpractices in price regulations, has warned businessmen and traders against over-charging consumers in the name of VAT (Value Added Tax) over and above the declared Maximum Retail Price (MRP) in packaged commodities.
In a notification issued by VH Zhimomi, Joint Controller, Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, the Department declared that MRP should include VAT or any other tax applicable for the product.
It reminded that any instance of charging more than the actual MRP was an offence under Rule 2392) of the standards of Weights and Measures (packaged commodities) Rules, 1977 and would attract prosecution under the aforementioned section. It appealed to consumers to report malpractices to the Department for necessary action.
