Wokha, February 13 (MExN): Advisor IT, Science and Technology, Mmhonlumo Kikon inaugurated the symbolic traditional Chumpo and unveiled the plaque at Wokha village on February 13.
It was reported in a press release that speaking at the occasion as special guest, Kikon pointed out, “our culture is our identity and Chumpo is an integral part of every village which was considered the first and the biggest institution in the olden days.” He reminded on the importance and significance of preserving our culture and traditional practiced by the forefathers.
Kikon applauded the Wokha villagers for identifying the olden Chumpo site after archeological excavation was carried out in the heart of the village and constructing a model signifying the old Chumpo.
Earlier, guest of honour, Nchumbemo Lotha, Additional Secretary to Government of Nagaland said, “One could learn and gain more knowledge” and further expounded on the importance of preserving culture and traditions.
Keynote address was delivered by Libemo Kithan, Convenor, Heritage Committee short speeches were delivered by Dr Chumben Murry, MLA, YM Humtsoe, NCS, PDA member and S Yanphamo Tungoe, Chairman, Wokha Village Council.
Dedication prayer was pronounced by Rev O Thungben Kikon, WVPC and Nchumbemo (Shipu) Erui & friends rendered the Chumpo dedication song. Eramo Yitssomo, B Khel narrated the significance and how the Chumpo was built by the forefathers.
The entourage accompanied by MLA Dr Chumben Murry and a host of dignitaries also visited the village heritage site at the village where a group mock spearing at wooden log by bamboo spike to cast away the agony and regain fortune was held before the inaugural of the Chumpo.
