Traditional games and sports at Spring Festival

Dimapur, March 8 (MExN): The sixth day of Spring Festival on March 8 saw competitive sports like traditional go-carting, tug of war, stilt walking, and greased bamboo pole climbing involving more than 1000 students from in and around Dimapur. Besides, children from Mizoram displayed a variety of their traditional games and sports to the merriment of the audience, NEZCC director Lipokmar Tzudir stated in a press release.   

Another highlight of the daytime activities included a seminar on women’s health and development in association with Global Health Advocates to commemorate International Women’s Day.  Papers were presented by resources persons, Dr. Rebiki Momin and Dr. Temsula Alinger from CIHSR followed by an interactive session with the local women participants.

The evening cultural show started off with a performance by the Rajasthani Rope Swingers.  The other highlights of the evening included a Drum ensemble by young performers from Assam and Manipur followed by a Cheirol Jagoi, traditional stick dance by a young Manipuri artist. The audiences were given a treat of traditional Ao Naga music with an accompaniment of a fiddle by Akola Longkumer.  The evening also witnessed vibrant Martial Arts performance by young boys and girls of Manipur.  Anuri enthralled the audience with his Naga folk fusion music, while the Chakhesangs performed along with a Tati. The show winded up with a performance by two young Kathak dancers from Sangeet Natak Akademi.

Som Kamei, Director, Postal Services, Nagaland and former director, NEZCC gave away the prizes for the winners of the competitive traditional games.
Finale show of the Spring Festival on March 9 choreographed by Dr. Prasanna Gogoi promises to be captivating and one to look forward to, the director added. All have been invited to the festival to enjoy varied cuisine and children activities in the park etc.
