Wokha, September 10 (MExN): The Art & Culture Committee of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Wokha organized a Cultural Day on August 31 under the theme ‘Our culture, our identity’.
The objective of the programme was to revive and take pride in “our” vibrant culture, while disseminating the knowledge of “our” culture to the students, according to a press release. Former minister of Agriculture and vice-president of Democratic Progressive Party, Dr. Chumben Murry, who was the chief guest, was accorded a warm traditional welcome by the school’s cultural troupe.
In the inaugural session, Principal Emilo Patton welcomed the gathering consisting of invitees, teachers and students who were all geared up in colourful traditional attires, while the school’s Art & Culture Committee convenor, Yiben R Humtsoe gave the keynote address on ‘our culture, our identity’. The students presented folk songs, folk dances, ramp walk showcasing traditional attires, and narrated traditional village formation.
In the second session, students participated in various traditional games such as bamboo pole climbing, knitting of socks and tug of war. The day ended with a common feast amongst teachers and students.
School’s Art & Culture Committee member Mhabemo Humtsoe proposed the vote of thanks, seeking cooperation and support in the activities to follow up for the betterment of students community.
