Training for cluster members on organic farming

Kohima, April 11 (MExN): The office of the District Agriculture Officer, Kohima conducted training programmes for cluster members on organic farming for adoption of Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) certification through cluster approach under Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) 2015-16.  

The training programmes were conducted at Riisoma village on March 31 and Khonoma village on April 8 last, wherein 58 farmers from five Local Organic Groups attended the training programs.

  The selected farmers were sensitized on the importance of organic certification where effort to make organic certification affordable to farmers and a system aims to convert producers into entrepreneurs is possible under the new Participatory Guarantee System (PGS).  

The Local Organic Group members were imparted training on Vermi composting where Vermi bags and worms were distributed to the Organic groups free of cost. The technical sessions of the programs were comducted by Mhasikhotuo Mere (A.O-II), Kethoneilhou Vimera ( A.O-II) and Myanthung Patton( A.O-II) as resource persons along with field functionaries.
