
Kohima, April 10 (MExN): The training programme for community mobilization and sensitization on RTE Act 2009 was held on April 10 at Ura Academy Kohima with the School Management Committee (SMC) leaders, EBRC L. Khel Kohima and Viswema.
Other topics covered during the training included responsibilities of SMC, including Education, special training quality, civil works, Swachh Bharat, UDISE, CAL Social Audit Accounting and financial, Pedhe Bharat Badhe Bharat, Schagun. The programme was organized by District Mission Authority (DMA) SSA, Kohima.
Speaking at the programme, State Mission Director SSA, Gregory Thejawelie called upon the participants to introspect as to whether we are living up to the goals set under the Communitization of Elementary Education Institutions and Services Act 2002. He also called upon the SMC members and the community elders to work together to provide quality education in the state.
Delivering the keynote address, Assistant District Coordinator DMA, SSA Kohima, Thongsenlo highlighted about the role of VEC under Communitization of Elementary Education in Nagaland. He said that the Government of Nagaland has enacted the Communitization of Public Institution and Services Act 2002 to share responsibilities for managing such institution and also create a sense of belongingness by way of active participation of the communities in various sectors including education.
He added that the aims and objectives were to create an educational authority through the VEC which would be delegated administrative and financial power for management of elementary School under its jurisdiction, and also to provide quality education and improve human capabilities of the child through a sense of belongingness, sharing among the local community members and to utilize the Material and Human resources for betterment of the Schools.
He appealed to the participants to shoulder the responsibility for the effective implementation of the programme to give quality education to the students.
DDEO Kohima, Neizetuonuo stated that the Government has come up with the various schemes and projects for enhancing quality education. She lamented that unfortunately there are many factors which hinder the smooth functioning of this progress due to lack of awareness of our rights, roles and responsibilities.
She urged the participants to raise awareness, hold periodic meetings, co-ordination programmes and facilitate in knowledge sharing for a fruitful outcome. She also sought their co-operation and active participation in the future.
Adding that the school management member, educators, concerned community denizens have a great responsibilities as the future of many students lay in the hands of teachers, she pointed out that their duty lies in identifying the needs and ensuring proper planning and implementation monitoring for the smooth functioning of the students.
SDEO Kohima, Talingangla, said that the purpose of education was to prepare students for challenges. She urged the trainees to be devoted to their duties and have new Vision for the upliftment of education in the area.
